Adventure sessions for families and couples don't have to include long hikes. One of my favorite locations located just 45 minutes outside of Seattle, WA is located right near downtown North Bend, WA. Mount Rainier National Park is popular for photos, but the reason I love this location is that it has a wide open field that is easy for kids to roam, walk and run in and you still get a dramatic mountain backdrop. No permit fee is required here. You simply park and walk a small path to arrive right at the base of the mountain.

If you hold your session at golden hour which is one hour just before sunset, the mountain in the background lights up. This beautiful family had a short drive from the Eastside and came ready to play with their kids. Light neutral colors work best for this particular location. I love that they incorporated whites and creams into their clothing because it allowed them to stand out from the light brown grass. I brought one of my Gigi Pip hats for Mom and her kids to play with - isn't her little boy so cheeky and cute?

The reason I love wide open spaces for kids is that it allows them to just be themselves. Kids need to move their bodies and little boys sure love to show me how fast their little legs can go and I'm always happy to accommodate them. These candid moments make for some really heartwarming pictures that I'm always excited to deliver to my clients.

This location is not for everyone. It requires a family or a couple that enjoys being outdoors and doesn't mind getting their shoes a bit dirty. This is a natural wildlife area and an elk crossing spot, so we do have to take pause if we encounter elk roaming in the background. Every time I'm out in nature, I consider that I am in nature's home and we respect the environment and leave no trace when we visit so that everyone else can enjoy it in all it's natural beauty.
